A Pathway Forward
Does your child suffer from?
- Depression (MDD or TRD)
- Anxiety (GAD)
- Trauma & PTSD
- Obsessive Compulsive Behaviors (OCD)
- Eating Disorders (especially anorexia)
- Acute Suicidality & Suicidal Ideation
Ketamine works quickly
One of the advantages of ketamine is that it produces symptom relief very quickly, in less than an hour, rather than the weeks it takes for antidepressants to take effect. The immediate response makes ketamine especially attractive for patients who are at high risk for suicide.
Timing of the therapeutic intervention may also play an important role, as evidence suggests that delaying ketamine therapy until later in the natural course of disease increases the likelihood of treatment resistance.
Why ketamine?
Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA) are 12-18 year-olds who are the fastest growing population of individuals suffering from and being diagnosed with Mental Health Disorders.
Ketamine Therapy and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) have shown remarkable results in adults with treatment resistant mental health disorders, acute suicidality and trauma. Adolescents, however, are distinct from the adult population – bringing unique perspectives and clinical-therapeutic needs.
AYAKAP, or Adolescent and Young Adult Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, brings the power of psychedelic medicine to an adolescent population in need.
Pala Medicine, led by board-certified pediatrician Dr. Suraiya Rahman, specializes in working with young adults. She is a founder and leader of a national AYAKAP Professionals organization, which conducts research and develops standards of care in this emerging area of medicine.
